Pompeii Travel Diary

You may have heard the tragic story of Pompeii’s fall. This once splendid city had faced the eruption of mount Vesuvius in 79 AD wiping out all civilization in not only Pompeii but Oplontis, Stabiae and many other settlements in the area.

But before all that Pompeii has quite a history. The people that first settled there were actually greeks until it fell to Roman influence. Elegant houses and villas lined the cobblestone streets alongside Taverns, shops, bathhouses. There was even 20,000 seat arena for the citizens. The city grew and grew. There was about 12,000 people living in Pompeii when mount Vesuvius erupted.
