What kind of food has a long history?
Anyone would recognize this food. Eaten around the world, pasta can be used to make loads of dishes and recipes. Lasagna, Tortellini, Rigatoni, Ravioli, Casseroles, and Mac & Cheese! It’s amazing.
The first records of pasta date back to the 1st century of AD and describe it as a flat, layered dough sometimes eaten with meet stuffed inside. It was called Lagana and similar recipe is used to make today’s Lasagna. It wasn’t until the 18th century that tomato sauce was introduced into the pasta dish. Plain pasta for 1,800 years!
Most people now that pasta originates from Italy. But there are also many other countries who have their own versions of this meal. North African countries like Morocco have a signature dish called Couscous made with many vegetables and a pasta wheat called Durum. A traveler by the name of Marco Polo wrote about China’s noodles.
But in the end though, Italy is the powerhouse of pasta, and it has spread all over the world! 6 billion pounds of pasta are eaten every year by Americans. Isn’t that crazy?!
